I feel like a broken record but...
Go to your local B&N.
Buy a
nook Color. It's $250.
It will do everything you want.
If you want to tweak things a bit, when you get home install
Auto-Nooter and you'll have full access to all of the standard Android features without the B&N interface getting in the way.
Following this install Opera Mobile or Dolphin HD (depending on your browsing tastes) for the web. Install K9Mail for managing all of your email. You'll be able to install nook, Kindle, and other type apps for reading stuff. The best is CoolReader because it opens multiple formats, is free, and its what I use to read the various forms of free books online (such as at
Baen Free Library). Install Meridian for multimedia (my nook Color handles 640x480 video--standard DVD resolution--with aplomb). I use Zeam as my default application launcher.

When I'm within a wifi do a little web browsing and check email.
When I'm not connected play simple games, store data, if it had some sort of kindle type app that would be cool, and a MP3 player.
