One of the alternatives is Duralite - still made right here in Ada, OK. Very similar to what Byron has, and I think they made solid centers at one time. I don't think they were around in the early 70's, but I know they've been making wheels for a while. Here's an old set that I sold to Martin in Ft Collins;
