I'd say it was a lucky circumstance, if an accident was in the cards. Looks to me like his bike was just close enough to the vehicle in front of him for him to not get thrown forward a lot. Plus his front wheel must have been oriented to where it caused the bike to be sort of accordioned/crunched up under him instead of being thrown upward or to one side. I'd say he was lucky in that accident, not to say there wasn't any injury from being whipped around. He's alive.
