I've kept a Yakima rack on the wife's Corolla for years. It's a pain to take off, store, then remount everytime I want to hit the river. And I'm not about to tie a 17' kayak to the roof of a car without a rack- I did that enough with my squirt boat before I was old enough to consider using a rack.
