This is one of the reason Nespresso is proprietary, they want to make sure you get the best cup as possible. They put the date of manufacture/roasting on their boxes and if they reach a certain date they pull them before a consumer can purchase them. They are in all foil. The simplicity and thought that went into the machine and accessories is what ALL companies should strive for.
I have heard their patent for their pods is over after this year, which would allow other coffee brewers into their market.
