I say depend on what type of person you are. Always find something to do at home, or siting at the TV or computer when at home?
For me, I had same situation, same thoughts, same decision last year. Now, I got a ranger. I use it a lot more than I thought I would.

Yeah, well I HATE not having a truck. Drives me freaking nuts. Need some 4x8 sheet rock? Yeah, instead of an hour trip to the lumber yard, that just turned into a 3 hour ordeal that involves a crap load of extra driving and $$$ to rent a truck.
I considered getting a trailer and putting a hitch on my wifes SUV, but our driveway is a twisty deal that comes off a busy arterial street. I really don't want to try backing a trailer in or out.
Unless someone has some brilliant idea, I'm going to buy another truck. No, I am not putting a roof rack on my 997.
btw, if you care, 2000 F-150 4x4 supercab, 77k, 5.4 V8, good condition, $5800.
