Years ago, I used my 1980 911SC Targa as a daily driver. Over the 5 years I owned it, it was my DD for two 1 year periods. I loved driving it when the weather was good and the top was off. It encouraged the long way home! It was very reliable and only let me down a couple of times. However, when it was too hot, the lack of AC was a killer. Similarly when it rained. And in traffic, if it was hot or raining, it was really quite annoying. Overall, I think it made me appreciate the car less, while it had DD duties.
At the moment I am thinking about using the Carrera (coupe) as a daily driver. However, I would only do it after re-installing/upgrading the AC but I guess that all comes down to the climate you live in. In terms of reliability, I wouldn't think twice.
If you spend a lot of your daily commute in traffic, I would not recommend it. Get a cheap DD for the boring stuff and enjoy your Porsche on weekends on some twisty roads, or on the track.
