Peter's 'stupidity' with his Leatherman reminds me of some stupidity of my own. The scar is enough reminder actually...
Really busy Saturday...race home from work to prep for a dinner party; had to race off again to pick up a customer car in the afternoon so was very rushed. Couldn't find the appple corer, so grabbed the grapefruit knife instead

. Hit a soft spot in an apple and the knife went straight through the apple and almost severed my middle finger on my left hand. Fine serrated double edged little sucker nearly took my finger off (cut through from the fleshy side to the nail bed). I saw stars...had to sit down in a hurry!
My Border Collie was so distressed that she was under my feet as I tried to get to the bathroom for the medic kit; so I tripped over her too. Thank God Mum arrived soon after...the dog raced to the front door and dragged Mum by her coat to the bathroom to find me sitting on the toilet (seat down

) trying to dress the finger and doing a lousy job (I am left-handed). Mum takes one look and then berates me for the next 10 minutes about my choice of knife (gotta love your Mum

)...eventually she shuts up and cleans and wraps the finger for me.
I start over on the apples; get everything sorted and then remember I have to pick up a hot 356 Speedster and take it to work. This car did not have the soft-top on and it was a cold day. I can remember the pain of the cold air hitting the finger every time I had to change gear in that car. It was the only time ever that I hated driving it.
A couple of days later I finally went to the doc...then he berated my for several minutes. Yes I should have had stitches as a minimum, but it was too late for that. He put it all back together with little butterfly bandaid things. I had pain in that finger for years and sometimes still do if I hit the scar as I did a fair amount of little nerve damage. That was 20 years ago...
I have never touched a grapefruit knife again...evil little suckers; all of 'em.
