The idea is to lose as little as possible by making 'market value friendly moves.' This is still an emotional decision, but it can have rational underpinnings. I appreciate the dilemma of a "done" car vs a project. Projects are not for everyone. As Macroni points out, the classifieds are littered with project cars.
But there are projects and projects. Think about getting a top end done on the engine and you'll have a presentable body and good drivetrain, and someone wanting to do an RS style interior will be happy to grab it.
