ADL or BDL? BDL's are a bit higher finished, so they go for a bit more. Assuming it's a BDL:
Since it's your dad, I would go up to $400, at the very most.
If it were something a bit more "special", like a first gen 7mm mag with the blued stainless barrel, maybe a bit more. Early .222's and 6mm Remingtons are starting to be a bit "collectable" as well. .243's, though, are a dime a dozen at the gun shows. They go for $300-ish at the shows around here.
