I'm sure he'll be fine, but it is going to be a new chapter for him and the daughter.

I talked to him late last evening just before he boarded his flight. Doesn't look like he'll have much time to get settled in, I guess in the intelligence/reconnaissance world he'll be temporarily assigned a "veteran" to fly with and then he'll be the mission commander (MC).
6-8 months (hopefully) and then rotate home.

On the up side, two other guys he went to the Academy with and also fly C-17's out of Charlotte (I think), volunteered (?) as well, so he may have a familiar face(s) to hang with in the off hrs.

It will be interesting to here from him and find out exactly what his responsibilities are. If he can tell us...:>)
