Very cool but reminds me of an analogy about the space program:

"When confronted with the (new) problem of devising a way to write down information in the early days of manned space flight, the US/NASA spent an insane amount of money, time and research developing a pressurized "space pen" that would function in zero G. The Russians used a pencil".

In this situation, we're using a megabucks weapon system with all kinds of fancy electronics to accomplish the same thing as a mortar (cheap, simple) could do.

I still would love to play around with one of these though. They do sound very cool.
