The information I got back was that #588 was not supplied from the factory with spoilers. I suspect the spoiler was added by a Porsche dealer so the correct second strut and channel rubbers were fitted as also evidenced in the Freisinger '76 C2.7 #41 which we know had it's rear spoiler added. Perhaps also the attachment bracket was not welded on too well causing it to fall off later.

The second strut was definitely fitted on 1977 model year Carrera 3's with the rubber rear spoiler and irrespective of whether air conditioning was fittted.

I have also heard back from the owner of the Magenta '74 Carrera in South Africa who has owned the car from new and says it always had a gold decal badge on the ducktail.
