Legality of football pool in California
I know of a guy running a football pool with a few thousand participants. There's a heck of a pot to be divided at the end of the season.
This guy is taking 10% of the pot as an administration fee, and that's stated up front. Don't like his rules, don't join his pool
My (limited) understanding of California law is that a sports pool is legal as long as the pot is divided amongst the winners. Since he's taking a fee, seems to me he's run afowl.
Anybody here have some insight into this? Is this sort of thing kind of a non-event as long he's not raking in millions?
