If I'm trying to sell something like a car or items at a yard sale, I usually price up to allow folks to haggle down. People seem much more likely to buy if they can talk you down. I've had folks at yard sales want to haggle on stuff the was marked $.10.
When I'm buying I car, I don't want to haggle. I assume that I'll need to, but I don't put much time or energy into it. If it's going to require lots of time and back and forth then I'm out.
What I really prefer is someone who is asking what I think is a fair price up front.
Some folks live for the haggle. I've known a few.
