There are different levels of quality from the same manufacturer. Next find out how those benefit you in the long run...ie. quality. Go to the web and confirm what he is telling you.

Contractors are a funny group, especially smaller ones. A couple of my sub contractors, like my plumber is a great guy. Straight shooter no games, but he is just poor with paper work such as writing out everything in details like brand name and model number. I have sent him to clients and they call back surprise at how his estimate is not very details (compare to mine). They use him anyway because of my recommendation. I have met so many great guys out in the field that can't put a detail bid together if their life depend on it, but they are great craftsmen. When you are dealing with a big company, they have people do nothing but write bids all day. You also pay for that too.
Scott,
Hire a honest small local guy and be done with it. More then likely, the owner is the one doing some of the work and hang around the job daily. My guy does the work himself.
