Straight razor shaving is well worth learning, I threw away my safety 5 or 6 years ago. Count on a few months to get comfortable with it though, and the chances are you'll have a few minor facial injuries while learning, everybody does.

Sharpening is a real art that takes time to learn, and If your razor isn't seriously sharp you'll fight to get a good shave.

So you've got to learn to shave and to sharpen, but once you've got it sorted it doesn't take much longer than a safety and it's so much more rewarding.
