Back to the subject of seat belts and helmets.
In high school a good friend of mine was the only survivor out of 4 in the big crash because he was the only one un-cool enough to wear a seat belt. Back in those days seat belt usage was very low. It was just not cool to wear a seat belt. My friend's father was an Air Force pilot just like my dad. We both get the same lesson about seat belts. I buckle up sometimes just to move my car from one bay to the other in my garage.
One of the ladies I used to work with never used a seat belt. Whenn we went somewhere in her car I would not allow her to drive until I dug the seat belt out of the passenger seat and had it on. I kept bugging her about how stupid it was to not wear a seat belt. When she got a newer car the seat belts were much easier to use. She actually had it on when a drunk driver plowed into her car. She said her first thought as she spun through the intersection and smacked a utility pole was "man I am glad I have my seat belt on, what would Glen have to say if I didn't." Her car was destroyed but she walked away with just a few glass cuts. Her husband thanked me for getting her to use her belts. Her family is now a believer in seat belts.
