My Minimax would beat quite a few of those planes on takeoff distance and even more of them if it had brakes to hold to be able to start with the tail up and full power. Obviously without brakes it will not land too short and has solid gear so one has to fly it on somewhat gently to avoid getting splinters in one's @ss.
I have landed in "backyards" before, but they were large ones with clear approaches..... Of course landing in my "backyard" is cheating.
During winter (especially with a decent headwind blowing) I can land about anywhere on skis.
