I read the article and its sometimes pretty funny stuff, he does write in a good flowing episodic style I like. That said I'm just not really buying his whole self deprecating I'm a putz thing, although it makes for a better story. I think his ebay sales pitch is pretty tack sharp and tough times or not Its such a 180 that I'm guessing the sale is one of 2 things : fuel for another article,
or he thinks while the cars 'stock is up' so to speak (following his article) its time to flip it.
I think that latter but who knows maybe I've just been a marketing guy for waaaayyyy too long and I see cynicism in feature press before quick turnaround sales. Reading between the lines on the 912e site the previous owner did all the work on the car and couldn't realize $20k for it, (i guess all he needed was some decent press

Interestingly it looks like the sale of the "Best one ever" 912E has got some heavy competition from what look like two other very strong examples both with OG paint, and one even has one of the USP : working AC.
This example aside I have to say there are some very very nice MY styles and colors over at 912 site, one guy has 3 amongst his five Porsches, clearly to some the 912e is habit forming. Personally I would never ever pay close to 20k for a 912e, I just don't like the VW motor, or the lack of available transmission and motor parts, but it certainly seems right now there are a few decent examples with all the unobtainable bits intact for those that would. Personally I'm looking forward to the results of pure capitalism in action, and if nothing else the 912E owners should thank the MJ scribe for pushing prices up !
Chris great story about your car, congrats and good luck at 115mph I hope you have the same distance to stop it took you to get there

...
Warmest regards back at ya !
