I guess I went low rent with simple Hampton bay puck lights running Xenon bulbs. I wired them into the existing 110v line that fed 3 florescent under counter lights and also ran extras along the top of the cabinets (2' ceiling clearance). I have a total of 14 or so. Bulbs last ~ 6 months and cost $5/ea. Dramatic difference.
