Were you able to get it started yet? If so, how run?
Pardon my "chineese" - sometimes I get that way.

Could be starter going south, if connections good.

Test to see if you messed (up): Remove T-belt (24 engine not have interference) and crank it. Should crank much faster even if cam have "normal" drag though. Put wrench on cam bolt and turn CW. Feel if abnormally hard to turn. If so, take back apart and find where you messed.

Don't remember distributor setup on 24 engine, but make sure dist timing is good (if applicable on 24 engine).

EDIT: One more thing: Make sure nothing fallen into engine when cover/head was off.
