Thank you for posting these pictures, descriptions and links. I'm in the process of restoring a WWII M1911A1 right now and I believe this thread is very timely as it gives me pause when I consider the sacrifices made by these men and women. I'll give my son and daughter each a pistol from WWII and tell them about the sacrifices that have been made to give us the gift of freedom.
My grandfather served in Europe during WWII and he did not talk about his service much, we had to pry information from him, but he loosened up a bit just before he passed and he told me quite a bit about his war-time service.
