What you're saying is that math rules are arbitrary, i.e., "based on or subject to individual judgment or preference"? Geez, I can't accept that at all!

If this equation was in a problem on an engineering exam and you got 288, you would fail the test.

I'd certainly contest that! And the competence of the prof. too! And, win or lose, I'd question my choice of engineering school and probably transfer to another school.

If you were designing an actuator for an airplane wing, the plane would crash.

Whoa! If what you say is true, I suddenly have an intense fear - of - flying phobia!!

I don't remember the third grade. Maybe if you were in the 3rd grade, you'd pass.

If I could do basic algebra in the 3rd grade I'd probably have graduated high school by age 10.

The word 'algebra' was probably gibberish to me at that age. And I'm no dummy! As a matter of fact, my parents were convinced for the longest time that I was going to be an astronaut, based on what my teachers told them when they asked how I was doing at PTA meetings. They told them that I was taking up space.
