Well I made some progress today. Finally got my new ignition switch and installed it. After cleaning a few of the grounds (I still have a few to get to), and re-checking the timing and belt tensions, the engine seems to crank a little better. It still cranks hard maybe 1/3 of the time. I left my battery charger on the battery overnight to ensure a good charge. I also re-checked my valve clearances.

Once the car is running it sounds and runs great.

I don't think this problem is related to the failing ignition switch but who knows.

When it does crank hard it seems almost like there is too much for the starter to move. Could I have gotten my belts ( timing, waterpump/anternator, and AC) too tight or not tight enought for that matter? I am fairly certain that my compression is much beter with the fresh head.

Thanks for your thoughts and advice.
