All fuel is a mix of good and bad hydrocarbon isomers. The linear form of octane is much easier to combust than the cyclic form, or things like benzene which they used to run F1 turbos on. The octane rating is just an average of two anti-knock indecies, one of which is where they run the fuel in a motor and increase the compression until it knocks.
Mixing fuel yourself is no issue provided you are OK with ethanol and you are not using leaded racing fuel. That is how the different grades at the pump are made anyway.
[(X gallons of 91)/(total gallons fuel volume)]*91+[(Y gallons 100 octane)/(total gallons fuel volume)]*100=octane rating for total gallons fuel volume
