Waiting on the dyno sheets via email so I will have to post those later.
Today we were on a Dyno-Dynamics and made 454RWHP and 490RWTQ on 12psi of boost. I have the numbers from my low boost setting of 8psi and those were (I can't remember exactly) about 394HP and 438TQ... I will post the sheets once I get them.
The tune is well dialed in after countless hours of Shark Tuning. The car returns to idle smoothly and has a clean cold start.. Considering I am using a S4 idle control valve on a early 32V ECU with S4 intake,,that's pretty darn amazing. It return to idle better than when the car was stock!
We are however at the limits of the ignition control system and also the fuel injector size we can use. Without knock sensors and the ability to run a bigger injector, among other limitations to the current system, I think we have squeezed the most power we can get. In addition we have the car tuned a little conservative for engine safety reasons. This engine can for sure handle more boost and would make more power with the right fuel and ignition systems. Because of these limitations and challenges for the early 32v cars, I highly suggest using the S4 platform for higher boost applications.
I truly cannot thank John Kuhn enough for his help in every phase of the build. In addition to developing an intercooler system, his commitment to helping me get the car sorted and tuned is the only reason the results are what they are. Without his expertise and involvement, the results would be nowhere close to what they are. I have spent a lot of time with John and can honestly say he is as thorough and meticulous as anyone I have ever met. If you are thinking of doing a turbo system on a 928 you will not find a better resource than John.
I'd also like to thank Jim Coman at Coman Performance in Alabama. After having rod bearing failure in the first build of my motor (built by someone else), Jim rebuilt my motor and worked through the issues that caused the problem. We've ran the living hell out of this car tuning it and on the dyno and it's held together. Although he never gets on here, I wanted to recognize him for his help.
It's been one helluva journey and tested my commitment like never before. I am in somewhat of a state of shock that it's actually "finished"...if there is such a thing with 928 projects......
