If you are in and around downtown, you'll be fine. Just know that everything closes at 10:00 p.m. on weekdays.
If you are outside of the "inner loop", kill yourself now. The town is impossible to get around. The interstates and roads form concentric circles around downtown. It is physically possible to be going southbound on Briley Parkway while going north (or vice-versa). Everything closes at 5:00 p.m.. Rush hour is from 4-5, and then everything shuts down. Except restaurants, they close at 7:00 on week nights. Going straight east, west, north, or south, may take changing interstates 3 times in 4 miles, while having to exit left, right, left to keep going in the same direction. There are only a handful of bridges over the Cumberland, so even if you can see the place you want to go to, you might have to go 15-20 miles around to get there. This also goes for parts of the city that are at different elevations. "Pikes" are roads that form concentric circles around downtown, but they change names 3-4 times. Other roads are "spokes" that radiate around town. Well, except for Briley Parkway, that road was designed by a city planner that threw a piece of spaghetti at the map. If you are used to a grid, prepare to be frustrated (or homicidal).
