Most of the "anti-Prius" posters here have never driven one...
As a daily driver, it meets and exceeds every single criteria needed:
-Headroom, passenger, and lugggage space for a family of four.
-Acceptable fuel milage when driven reasonably.
-Decent passing power and handling(no, it is not an Ariel Atom, sorry).
-Reliablity? Think back to your 80' GM.
The hybrid drive is only a means to an end.
It can be geared towards power(like the 918), or millage(like the Insight).
In the end it's only a car.
