fwiw, Mathematical Relationships are notated/modeled (represented) by "the ink dots." BUT, "the ink dots" are NOT the actual relationship. ...the relation can be represented/modeled by the ink. ...but that is all it is; a representation. (sometimes a poor one)
This may seem trivial - the idea that the word is not the thing - yet clearly some are interchanging the two, as the same, and getting REALLY hung up on their model eqn being w/o flaw. (as long as one set of rules is followed)
Clearly problems arise when some people are aware of other rules. ...or see that the serial string of math is oddly notated, and look for the writers intent.

And SOME see more than just that rule. Some see that the notation
rules, themselves,
are not, and have not been constant.
That is, as others have demonstrated, and as I have linked to... that one grade-school rule which so many cling to, that rule is not ubiquitous thru history, or even some current programing languages. --again, as demonstrated by various eqn writing coders.
But feel free to continually (& ignorantly) berate others for not accepting your one grade-school rule as being ABSO-fuch-ing-LUTE! (because you say so.)
