If the 996 was the 3.4L version, I'd take a boxster S over that in a heartbeat. I find the 3.4 to be sluggish. Couple that with the fact that the lines on the 996 do very little for me, and it'd be an easy decision. But I'd also happily take the lesser power and comfort of the 3.2 Carrera any day of the week. It's plenty comfortable (compared to old 70s 911s) and has enough power to make it fun. If you just want power, buy a Corvette.
