I actually can't stand mustangs. I was always a GM guy.
Back in the mid 90s I had a 1979 3.8 Turbo Pontiac Le Mans (Like a malibu but with a little more exterior flare and a much sportier dash). The motor was a tuned carburated turbo (breathing through an off-road racing exhaust) that in later versions in Buick Grand Nationals would become legendary. It probably put about 250hp to the wheels. The trans was a worked up TH350 with a 3000rpm stall speed and the rear was a 3.73 10 bolt limited slip. I would launch at the max 10psi boost and it was like it was fired out of a cannon.
It had upgraded sway bars, 1" lowered coils, bigger late model Monte SS disc brakes and coil over Monroe GP gas charged shocks with 1985 Monte SS rims and low profile Goodyears.
I would have loved to race that on a road course against some 911s or anything else. It was an absolute beast back in the day. Don't think i ever lost a race in it.
Sadly, one night it developed a little fuel leak, sprayed fuel on the exhaust turbine housing of the turbo, and that was that...
It burned to the ground right before my eyes.
Any way, point is....i liked GMs.
Also had a badass Buick T-Type turbo, and a 78 El Camino with a 1973 Vette LT1 and Borg Warner T10 4 speed at different times too. Loved my GM hot rods.
Mustangs were my main opponents on Friday and Saturday nights.
