SCs are generally less expensive than Carreras because they are older, but IMO they should also be worth less because of the CIS issues.
For your stated use, there's no reason to get an SC, when you can get a Carrera for either the same price or a little more.
There is kind of a "bottom" on the prices of solid air cooled 911s, and that is around $10K. Excluding the mid years (74-77), it is hard to get any 911 that is complete, relatively original, rust free, excellent mechanical and cosmetic condition, for under $10K.
But, for $12-13K you can easily find a nice 84/85 Carrera.
CIS functions ok with E10 gas, I think the real issue is that CIS doesn't deal with moisture in gasoline very well, there are a lot of very small parts that come in contact with fuel and can be corroded by moisture.
I think most CIS parts are still available, but the Motronic of the 84-89 is a far easier, simpler, and more reliable injection system. CIS is a product of the late 60s, Motronic is really a fairly modern injection system, of the '80s.
