For me it is lack of transparency.
At a fundemental level Mobil 1 is a good motor oil since is is formulated with a good bse stock (Type IV). It is the games with the additive package they played that has me not trusting them going forward.
Even today, they do not disclose the necessary quantitative data in their Product Data Sheets to help me know if I am getting what I want.
Mobil lost my trust when they changed formulations early in the transition from SL to SM oils but did not document the change nor notify the end users. In fact they insisted all was ok yet shortly therafter made some more changes to address the outcry.
Other oil manufacturers were more forthright with their data.
That is enough for me, but as I am fond of saying: your car, your money, your choice.
