Previous house, I did my outside room next to the deck in tile. It was partially covered but still exposed to the elements, including ice and snow........No problems.
Our new house, will have a slate application on a slab. Just got the call a few minutes ago from the contractor that's building our deck. Been delayed over and over because of all the tornadoes/weather. We're on for next week!
