Its all about who the TARGET MARKET is...
The old trucks were meant for work, and were bought by people who needed working trucks. As such creature comforts were secondary frills which working guys didn't need and wouldn't pay for. At one time to be seen in a PU was a sign of being working class.
In the 1970's that old dictum about PU trucks began to change with the advent of 4WD behemoths raised to the sky. Now PU began to be FASHION statements..the new in thing...over the years that morphed into the PU being MC Suburbanites flavor of maintaining a self reliant image.
Over the decades the old workhorse PU has now been outfitted to be a comfortable and luxurious passenger vehicle while maintaining that working class image of being self reliant.
