I believe you will find that the strength derived from lifting weights in a controlled environment such as a gym, works on building muscles to work in a controlled way. Your muscles do not work in harmony in this environment, but individually, for the most part.

When you develop your strength working in real life environments, your body uses a wide assortment of muscles to do the work as the movement is likely not something that requires one muscle group.

You can get very strong lifting in a gym. That strength can be demonstrated easily in a gym. It can translate to the real world given some time using it in that way and allowing the muscles to work together.

Someone who works for a living (work: the Physics definition, moving things) uses his muscles in real world applications. This translates well in using his muscles in real world situations. It will also translate to a gym, but again, it will need a little time.

In short, each can be champion in his own world, but most people live in the real world.
