He'd have been OK if he just stuck his hand in and took it out, but he wanted to touch the inside of it's mouth. As soon as he touched it's bottom jaw, he sprung the trap. It could be worse, at least the thing didn't death-roll when it clamped down. There's a video on the net of a little Asian dude in some sort of show that has his lower arm inside the mouth of a croc that bites down and then death-rolls. The crop rolls over more times than the little man does. It's not pretty.
