Save yourself a whole lot of wasting of time and money and look at this thread in detail Just bought a TBF car - Rennlist Discussion Forums

I have been substantially involved in the car in that thread, so I do have some experience with your symptoms. Do a search here on Pelican and also on RL for "TBF" and draw your own conclusions.

And yes, the flex plate will force the crank forward far enough long enough to eat the thrust bearing. It will run fine until the counterweights on the crank start to mill the inside of the block. When it gets that far along the engine is TOAST. Can't be repaired with a normal processes or reasonable price. Often the block will crack. Classic failure symptom, engine will run when cold. Will not turn over when warm/hot.

You should check the flex plate for signs of distortion, also there will be aluminum flakes in the oil filter, sometimes in the pan somethimes not...there is a lot written on this problem. Search is your friend. Unfortunately your eBay seller is not your friend.....
