Agreed. I have no problem with people serving the public being well-compensated. I have EVERY problem with them being well-compensated AND having unionization and/or tenure to protect deadbeat slackers and abusers of the public trust.
Pay cops, firefighters, teachers, etc. whatever is fair but show them the door as soon as they start taking it for granted getting fat, dumb and happy or on ego/power trips. In the private sector you have to continually demonstrate your appreciation for your job or it gets taken away. I see absolutely no reason this shouldn't be the case in the public sector.
