My brother had a 99 TDI Jetta manual, purschased for $4,500 with 120,000 miles on it.
Came with a refreshed suspension, brakes, new timing belt and water pump.
Drove it for a few years and sold it for $5,000 with 180,000 miles still on the original clutch. Only item outside of routine maint. was tires, vacuum lines and a cooling fan.
My wife had her 04 TDI with the PD-BEW motor (BEW are not known to have cam shaft issues) with the tip-tronic. Sold it with 94,000 miles for a 2011 TDI Sportwagen.
Only issues with her car was a cooling fan; EGR coolant hose that developed a leak and the drivers door light switch stopped working.
