Earl Morse, one of the guys who started this in Enon, Ohio, was a PE in my doctor's office. They started out with volunteers flying a small plane about the size of a King Air. I volunteered to be an escort in about the second year. They were chartering 100 seat airplanes by then. Escorts had to buy our own tickets and we each had 5 guys to watch over. I arrived at the airport at something like 4 AM and we started getting everyone organized. We got to Washington about 10, got everyone on buses, drove to the memorial and just hung around while the guys looked and talked. Then we had lunch and got back on the plane. We got back to Ohio and got everyone into their rides home by about 6. It was a heck of a long day, but some of those guys were great to hang around. I don't know what happened to Earl. I don't see him mentioned in any of the promotions of the program these days.
