Sorry to hear of your misfortune! I had an "un-fun" breakdown moment of my own so I'm well acquainted with that feeling.
Were there any other indications of failures? Funny noises, smells, vibrations, etc?
Did the temp needle peg out along with the red temp light?
What's your coolant level showing?
Check the oil level - is it low or showing empty?
Are there any leaks you can see?

I'm by no means the most knowledgeable here, but some basic scoop like that might help someone more technically savvy.

Were you close to home when it happened? Are you a member of PCA?
