Welcome to the 912 world, Chuck.
You will find your VW background will transfer very nicely over to the 912. Oil changes, valve adjustments, tune-ups (plugs, points, condenser, rotor, cap) all look so familiar if you were rised on VW's (1960-70). Differences are oil filter, 4 carbs to adjust, and parts are more expensive, but luckly don't need to replace often. My take on the 912 is once you get the gremlins out, it's a very cool car to drive with the up keep of a VW bug. I just love it.
