Many people can get their medical back, even if its for a one time issue. Then do not even try to renew it, just let it lapse. Then they are totally legal for Light Sport.

Agree that if a medical was denied then LSA is not an option, but the rules and such have changed a lot in the last 8-10 years and if someone wants to fly, get it back one time and then you are good to go.
