As long as you have a valid driver's license, you are legal to fly an LSA.
I know there are plenty of guys out there without a current medical or BFR, but I won't do that. Flying an old Cub or Champ over Montana ranch land may be acceptable risk for some, but I'm not willing top fly the Bonanza without velid insurance. No insurance company would pay a claim if the pilot was not current.
