The center piece of the fan is cadmium plated I think.
I might have removed a bit of that with the scotch brite pad....

I consiously limit my softdrinks to two max, maybe three a week.

Coffee is another question, I need it in the morning. I don't start my 60 mile commute at 5.30am without it.
