I'll agree with that, the 141 was such a GREAT plane... Getting to fly both the 141 and the DC-8, I feel like I got to be part of an era that is slipping into the history books...
Both planes, ESPECIALLY the 8, were TANKS !
Now, coming from the C-5, I simply CAN'T call the 17 'crap'... There are a LOT of C-5 guys out there that were 'raised' on that plane (always in the shadow of the 141) and in my opinion it seems they want their plane to be 'the best in the Air Force'... and YEAH - IT'S BIG !! and can do some pretty cool things for a plane that can carry what it can carry, but the C-5 is an enormous TURD !!!
I don't understand right now why they didn't design the C-17 with a faster cruise speed, other than the wing design for high-lift w/ short field t/o & lndg in mind, which it does AMAZINGLY well... I haven't got to that point yet, but I think that LRC is .74 in the 17, don't know what red-line is, but she likes to burn a lot of fuel...
