$20K will find a well sorted 911SC, 3.2 Carrera and maybe even a 964 as well as some 996's.
Your best tools are time, patience, willingness to learn, take LOTS of test drives to get a baseline of what feels "good" vs not good etc. Spring/summer brings out lots of sellers.. Fall/Winter bring out motivated sellers.
