Don't give up so easily. I scored really nice Recaro SEs for $350 on craigslist. Try craigslist and VW Vortex classifieds. Note: the Recaro-made seats that came stock in certain VWs are generally not a bolt in proposition -and neither are E30 BMW ones- but there are tons of aftermarket ones floating around out there relatively inexpensively.
Consider Corbeau and or Konig seats as well, but stay away from the no name ebay cheap-o ones as they are notorious for falling apart. YMMV.

Craigslit and VW Vortex are good suggestions. It would be especially nice to see a pair before I buy them. Im guessing that I will need to buy or make a bracket for many of these aftermarket seats to fit the 911. Anyway, I will follow up on these. Thanks again.
